The Bratva are an enemy faction in Watch Dogs 2.

History[]

The Bratva, or the Brotherhood, are a Russian mafia group who arrived in the 1980s as scouts for the Brighton Beach Mafia in Brooklyn. San Francisco is one of the centers of money laundering operations via Russia and the United States, and they run brothels, traffic drugs and people, and commit other violent crimes, as other mafias do. They have no qualms about risking human lives just to gain profits, as seen when they hacked into hospitals.

Activities[]

The Bratva engage in various criminal activities, mostly related to trafficking and cybercrime. They deal in drugs, arms and human trafficking. During the Human Conditions DLC, the Bratva attempt to extort money from hospitals using ransomware while using it as a distraction for their data theft, being led by Anton Bagdonov. In the No Compromise DLC, they are seen in business with Alan Jablonski—who is under the alias Alejandro Jackofski—a porn director who arranges passports for Russian illegals in exchange for performances.

Trivia[]

  • The Bratva sport black and white tracksuits similar to that made by the German company Adidas. Adidas manufactured sportswear for the Soviet Olympics team during the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Adidas clothing has since become extremely popular in Russia, and is typically associated with the gopnik subculture.
  • In real life, the Russian Mafia is also known as the Bratva, meaning "brotherhood" in Russian.[1]
  • The Bratva use Soviet imagery and symbols, such as the Hammer and Sickle, the Raised Fist with "CCCP" sign, and Vladimir Lenin tattoos.
  • It is possible that the organization isn't necessarily Slavic or Russian, as names like Levente (a Hungarian name) are in the name RNG. The hammers and sickles and Lenin tattoos imply the Bratva is actually a organization made of people from post-Soviet states.
    • To further back this, the dispatcher infrequently speaks Russian so non-Russian speaking members understand, unlike the Tezca dispatcher, who sometimes speaks full sentences in Spanish. Some Bratva NPCs don't speak Russian at all as well.
    • According to Wrench in Watch Dogs Legion, he tells Aiden Pearce that thanks to DedSec, he was freed from an Eastern European gang. In Watch Dogs 2, Aiden's cameo involves the player hacking a prison cell in order to free Pearce. Pearce is then attacked by Bratva but manages to escape.
  • The Bratva and the Chicago South Club both possess vehicles with similar livery and colors.
